Heavy duty verge mower - ORSI 206 offset PTO flail mower. Supplied new to the original owner in 2015 by Weaving Machinery, we bought the unit as a trade-in from them in late 2018 for a grassland management contract for a landowner client and it had six cuts perannum to make until Covid arrived. It is a UK nearside offset machine -pretty rare- and was bought specifically so that we could cut the verges without facing into traffic; safer for the operator and less scary for the general public who didn't fly round a blind bend in the middle of Cumbria to be faced with a Valtra!
Not much happened for the 12 months or so after lockdown so, in a weak moment when we had nothing else to fix, we decided to refurbish the machine. New bearings were fitted to the rotor and rear roller and a new set of heavy duty hammer flails were also fitted.
We'd gone this far so a new set of belts was also added to this list. Next was a new prop shaft with overrun clutch and, whilst we were being fussy, we noticed a small film of oil on the rod of the side-shift ram soI had a new, uprated ram made and fitted to be sure we never had any issues again. All this was done just in time for the Covid restrictions to be lifted and for the client to tell us that they were going to use their own staff to do the cutting from then on - not ideal. Since then, it has been gathering dust with only 4 or 5 outings to cut the grass verges and banking on the lane to our own property and I can't justify keeping it just for that, hence the sale. It has just cut the lane again so I know it is still working perfectly -it has been greased and washed off as usual and is ready to go to work - video on YouTube; search ORSI Verge Flail (listed on our page; Bergen Tree Services). I've tried to get the link to work but I'm not that clever, obviously! It needs about 60hp to run it at 540 shaft rpm - the quality of the cut is excellent and it runs without vibration. The last two photos show the before and after shots of our own verges. Sorry - forgot to mention that this machine can also cut and process scrub, shrubs and small trees up to 60mm diameter so it's a bit like a light duty mulcher as well.
